Now let's talk about the facility review as part of the monitoring process.

Remember that there should be no students present during the review. Staff should walk through the facility beginning with where students enter each day. All areas that AEDY students may access should be shown, including any classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, the gym, any counseling spaces, or any other spaces, and remember the AEDY team member will ask questions and clarifications during the walkthrough.

What we look for during the facility review. We want to see entrances and exits - are they safe and secure? Are they accessible? We'd like to see all emergency exits - where they're located. Where searches are done and where student items are stored, and how AEDY students are kept separate from non-AEDY students if this applies. As far as classrooms, we want to see how conducive they are to learning, what materials are used, what technology is used, how do students access the materials and technology?

Individual counseling - is it a separate, private space and also where are those records stored? Is it private and secure? As far as food service, we want to know where students receive breakfast and lunch and who provides that. And then fire safety, we need to see extinguishers - that they are serviced regularly per PA code, where they are located, and how easily they are accessible to students and staff in the AEDY program. We'll also confirm if a sprinkler system is present in your facility or not.
