FSA 1 | Restraint

Resources for Restraint

Video Transcript

Restraint falls under FSA 1 - the policy is reviewed by our Bureau of Special Education colleagues, while the log and procedure for reporting is reviewed by the AEDY team. Our team reviews the log and procedure because all restraints must be documented in AEDY programs.

Slide: AEDY Cyclical monitoring. FSA 1: restraint.
slide: restraint review - 3 documents. Policy. Must meet the requirements of chapters 14.133 and 711.46. Must include reporting to BSE. Restraint log. Log must include: required fields for RISC reporting (Bureau of Special Education), must be maintained by AEDY program for monitoring purposes. Restraint procedure: who is responsible for documenting the restraint? Once a restraint has occurred, what is the timeline for providing verbal and written documentation to the LEA and parent? What follow up supports occur for the student?

This slide details the necessary components of each document. Within this [module], we have provided the RISC reporting template that includes all the required fields for reporting a student with a disability to the Bureau of Special Education. As noted on this slide, the the procedure should minimally include the following:

Who is responsible for documenting the restraint? Once a restraint has occurred, what is the timeline for providing verbal and written documentation to the LEA and parent? What follow up supports will occur for that student?

We recognize that many AEDY programs have more included in their procedures, but for compliance purposes, we expect your procedure to minimally include these.

Maintaining a restraint log is a requirement when operating an AEDY program. During monitoring, our team will review the log based on the student who has been seated for the longest amount of time. This means, if a student has been seated almost a year, we review a year's worth of restraint logs from the AEDY program.
